Alex Martinez is a first-generation queer Chicana, raised among nopales, strawberries and canneries in Watsonville, California. She began her formal fine arts education at San Francisco State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art focusing on Printmaking and Painting. Working towards inclusive arts education, she became a dually credentialed General Education and Special Education Teacher focusing on students with mod/severe disabilities.
Currently, she is an exhibiting multi-medium artist, teaching artist for Oakland’s Museum of Children’s Arts and childcare provider, she is committed to multi-disciplinary learning and community development. Many of her works center around being a muxer/woman in solitude, living in a dreamscape of her own making, surrounded by animal and plant protectors.
